I am the vilest and most despicable of creatures, Why, therefore, do people come to me ?
I judge myself rightly because, in order to punish me for my grave faults, you have willed that I lose my sight for the time being. Oh, how I deserve these tribulations !
However, have you not granted me the favour of speaking to the birds and being understood by them ?
Have you not continued to heap your exceptional favours upon me ? For instance, that of granting me the stigmata of your Passion ?
I begged you to take great pity upon me. Suddenly, an angel appeared holding a viol in its left hand and a bow in its right hand. A melody eas heard. My soul is drunck on that sound.
I address a final prayer to you, O Christ. When the time comes for your despicable creature to die, cause him to fall asleep in peace and in eternal life.
